The peaceful development of cross-Strait relationship is a common aspiration of the people on both sides of Taiwan Strait and all the children of the Yellow Emperor. For a long time, the Tsinghua University has been committed to using various ways to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and has made a positive contribution to the promotion of cross-Strait industrial cooperation, scientific research, cultural exchanges, as well as civil exchanges. In order to the further development of cross-Strait, after a long period of deliberation and preparation, Tsinghua University set up Institute for Cross-Strait Development in September 2014.

As a scientific research institution to service the national development strategy, ICSD fully exploits the comprehensive advantages of cutting-edge research according to several overall and targeted problems in the cross-Strait relationship. Positively ICSD also provides policy recommendations and consulting suggestions, in order to realize the value of being a high-end think tank. Besides, ICSD organizes programs of talents cultivation, high-level academic exchanges, and promotion of the construction and development of related disciplines. To build up the bridge for the communication and development of cross-Strait, ICSD arranges activities like academic exchanges and project cooperation by inviting the experts, scholars, and visionary people from cross-Strait based on hot topics in all fields. 

The foundation of ICSD has received great help and support from all parts. Currently there are several departments has been set up, Technology and Education Division, Medicine and Health Division, Agricultural Cooperation and Promotion Division, Finance and Investment Division and Integrative Division. In the future development, ICSD will grasp the historic opportunity, base on the two-sides, and keep the whole world in view. By collecting and integrating of the essence of the cross-Strait four regions and carrying out research of sustainable development, ICSD will put forward policy recommendations, at the meanwhile adhere to the combination of theory and practice. More contribution would be made by ICSD for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation to actively promote cooperation in all aspects of the cross-Strait, and strive to create a new prospect for peaceful development of cross-Strait relation.
